HVAC not working on occasion (2014 Dodge Grand Caravan)
Issue started in the fall when suddenly the AC stopped blowing. I replaced the blower motor and things worked fine for a while, but then would randomly stop working. A common scenario…car starts up, no AC blowing at all. Doesn’t matter what the fan speed is, doesn’t matter if the AC button is engaged or not, doesn’t matter if I’ve got it blowing from the upper fans/lower fans/defrost. After driving for 20 minutes (or a little longer or shorter) the fan will start blowing as normal. Functionality with fan speed and direction will return as well. On occasion it will start working, then stop, then start again in quick fashion. As a side note, when the fan works the air coming out is as cold as expected.
I live in the northern states, so I didn’t have the need for AC from Nov-Now. The issue would still happen with the heat, but it was less frequent.
When I start the car up, the issue is always there. I haven’t been able to start it and have immediate functionality in weeks.
Is the blower motor resistor worth a shot here? It’s an easy enough fix but I’d rather not spend the $ if it’s likely something different (as I did with the blower motor). I also know for certain that the two front blend door actuators need to be replaced (which I’ll do with the resistor if that ends up being the issue) but from what I’ve read, it doesn’t seem likely that those would be the culprit for these symptoms.
Appreciate any feedback!
