1 week - 1 character. Ep.1 - Millia.

1 week - 1 character. Ep.1 - Millia.

Howdy everyone. I decided to share a new player's perspective towards new FG, learning characters, approach to ranked, mindset, and all that. Maybe it's gonna be useful for newbs that are starting out like me, maybe it's gonna get a few giggles out of local Vanq players.

I started GGST after the arrival of 2.0. This is my first anime fighter, and second fighting game overall (first is SF6).

After about two weeks of fucking around with various characters, getting placed into 1RP spots, and just getting a feel for the game, I've decided that the best way to find a main - is to try everyone. And to give it an actual try, I locked in for 7 days and played only this character. Labbing, watching YT guides, high level players, actively trying to understand and improve.

First on my list was Millia Rage - I just liked her conceptually, so... Yeah.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Started at 1RP (iron 1), climbed to 16600 (gold 2).

What I liked:
• Her OKI is insane. You get a knockdown - it's blender time, and nobody's escaping that.
• Incredible mobility, especially air mobility.
• Pretty interesting combo routes - haircar juggles, aerial combos and allthat.
• Instills the fear of god into the opponent by just existing on the screen.
• Very hard to AA.

What I didn't like:
• Combos are somewhat inconsistent. There's a good chance of dropping stuff if you're a frame or two off.
• Damage is kinda low. I get why, but still.
• No HP. Glass bones. 3rd lowest in the game after no-mana Asuka and Chipp. Everything hurts.
• Winger fucking sucks.

Tips for newbs trying out Millia:
• 2K-2D is your best friend. Get a knockdown, put them in a blender.
• 236s is a very good long range poke
• Haircar (214p) is NOT safe
• Septem Voices (236236S) is NOT a reversal.

Tips for newbs struggling against Millia (legit nobody plays her)
• Throw into Tandem Top is FAKE. You can mash/jump out of it.
• Unless she throws a ton of Kapels (the air rose), your best bet is air-to-air or air throw. Or DP.
• Keep her out and don't let her knock you down.
• You got knocked down - pick left/right and high/low and pray to whatever god that you guessed correctly.

Winrate at the end: 50%

Best Matchups: I-No, Zato, Gio.

Worst Matchups: Lucy, Bridget, Chaos.

Overall impression: Millia is VERY strong, and very fun. She's a flying ragebait. However her health and weak defensive options put her at very high risk if the opponent is somewhat aware of her shenanigans.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Shortcomings as a player: I don't RC practically at all, which definitely hinders my damage and defence. I tend to get flowcharty a bit, which kinda blows me up sometimes. I forget to dashblock and eat f.S with my face.

Next on the list: Ky or Bridget. I hate fighting both of them, so I gotta know what they play like to better counter them in the future.

Help against Ky.

I am getting severe Ryu flashbacks.
What do I even do against this MF? I'm playing Millia right now, but that's more of a general question about counterplay.

Stun Edge got Zeus juice, so no going under/over it anymore, the vertical range is infinite.

Normals range make Unika proud of her dad.

Foudre Arc is ANNOYING, because it's free plusframes and I can't 6P it if he does this in a blockstring.

I'm Silver 3 at the moment, and Ky feels like one of the toughest matchups, because I have no idea how to counter at least most of his options.

Scum Dipper - yeah, sure, I know how to punish that. But something tells me that Kys are gonna stop just throwing it in neutral the higher in ranks I go.

What do? Helb.

insert free losing to mids and throws meme

I got pulled out of a haircar with HPB.

I have no fucking words. I just read somewhere today that Iron Savior is considered airborne, so IN THEORY Pot should be able to HPB a sliding Millia.

I laughed.
I got hit with that three hours later.
I immediately closed the game after that (not RQ, I just lost).

Bruh. I ain't even mad.

Fuck this fuckass matchmaking. I got the game three fucking weeks ago, and what do I get on a chill Saturday evening in my humble Silver 2?

I get Silver 3 Testament. I get smoked. Alright, sure, he plays a bit like a coward, runs away, jumps just out of reach - I get it, you need your RP, go do your optimal stuff. I'm not really mad, tbh.

Same Test. Again. Same fuckass gameplan of running away and spamming jump normals and the fucking bird, sending me full screen away. I start getting annoyed. Still lose.

Same. Fucking. Testament. Again. Five. More. Times. In. A. Row.

I started fucking fuming already. I don't mind losing, especially because I'm actually bad and still don't know the matchup/matchup sucks for me.

BUT WHY THE FUCK DO I HAVE TO GET REMINDED OF THAT SEVEN FUCKING TIMES IN A ROW?!

I take a 10 minute break.
I get matched against lvl 1250 Faust who just floods the screen and does nothing else. (I'm lvl 50, for context.)

Fuck this shit, ArcSys, fix your fucking ranked.
