FREEZING DURING HARASSMENT IS NOTTT CONSENT

So basically a video was sent to me by a friend showing a girl being sexually assaulted in public transportation i guess? But what disturbed me almost as much as the assault itself was the comment section it was the most disgusting sickening thing I've seen in a while

People were saying she “wanted it” because she didn’t push him away, scream, or physically fight back Some even claimed she was “enjoying it” :) simply because she froze and what baffled me even more SOME OF THESE COMMENTS WERE MADE BY WOMEN WHAT THE ACTUAL F??

I genuinely need people to understand this FREEZING IS A TRAUMA RESPONSE NOT A FORM OF ENJOYMENT

When the brain perceives danger it does not always choose fight or flight Sometimes it completely shuts down this is one of the most documented psychological responses to fear and assault FREEZING IS NOT CONSENT, SILENCE IS NOT CONSENT, AND OFC FEAR IS NOT CONSENT

As someone who has gone through situations like this more times than I would ever like to admit I can tell you firsthand that people love to imagine they’d react perfectly in those moments until it actually happens to them (which is something i wouldn't even dare to wish on my worst enemy)

I once tried speaking up and yelling only for the guy to immediately act innocent and say“Astaghfirullah wsh raki tahdri khti” and guess what? No onee believed me lol Other times I was visibly uncomfortable, crying, unable to move, and people around me still did absolutely nothing that’s the reality many victims face people watch, stay silent, and then later question why the victim “didn’t do more"

And where were the bystanders in that video? Because somehow society always has endless criticism for the victim’s reaction but almost none for the people who stood there and allowed it to happen

This culture of victim blaming protects abusers and silences survivors It teaches victims that no matter what they do freeze, cry, fight back, stay silent they will still be judged for it afterward

If you’ve ever gone through something similar, I’m truly sorry It was never your fault Your body was trying to survive the situation in the only way it could

And to everyone blaming that girl the question should never be “why didn’t she fight back?”

It should be why did he think he had the right to touch her in the first place????
