Finally pulling the trigger on a move from Temescal (Oakland) to San Rafael. The cross-bay logistics are stressing me out no direct freeway route without going through SF, and I've heard horror stories about bridge traffic on moving days. Is it better to go early morning through SF or take the long way around via 580? Also, for anyone who's hired Bay Area movers recently, are prices still crazy high, or has it calmed down since the pandemic surge? 3BR house worth of stuff.

Got a 2-year work assignment in Germany starting in the fall. We have two cars and are trying to decide if we ship one, both, or none. One is a pretty practical daily driver (Honda CR-V) and the other is a classic we've had for 20 years and wouldn't want to sell. For those who've done international auto shipping, what's the process actually like? How far in advance do you need to plan, and what's a realistic cost from the Chicago area? Also are there import taxes in Germany that make it not worth it for the daily driver?

Planning a move from Midtown to the Heights neighborhood about 4 miles. Two bedroom apartment, nothing crazy. I've gotten quotes ranging from $380 to $950 for the same job and I genuinely can't figure out why the spread is so wide. Is this normal? What are people actually paying for a local 2BR move in Houston these days? And is there a time of month or week where you get better rates? First time hiring movers, so any advice appreciated.
