Hi, I’m a 21-year-old female. I saw a hip specialist yesterday, hoping to finally get some solid advice on what to do next.
I’ve been dealing with hip pain for 2.5 years. From the beginning, I’ve been doing physical therapy and some osteopathy, but unfortunately, it has gotten worse over time.
The pain only occurs when I’m running or doing sports. I used to play soccer at a high level, but I stopped over a year ago because of it.
I had high hopes for this appointment, thinking I’d finally meet a doctor who really knows their field. I was diagnosed with CAM impingement in December, and yesterday he also found that I have severe pincer syndrome. He told me that arthroscopic surgery would no longer be an option for me, and that they would have to essentially dislocate or fully access the hip joint to correct it. He said he would not recommend this kind of surgery at my age.
I’m definitely planning to get a second opinion. For now, his only recommendation was to adjust my physical activity and stick to things that don’t cause pain, which honestly feels like a really discouraging solution.
So I’m here looking for advice. Has anyone dealt with this combined type of hip impingement and managed to improve? Are there any gym exercises that helped? Or anything else I should consider?
I’m feeling really lost right now, I just want to be able to play soccer again.
