I am meeting with my doctor for more information on a treatment plan for my 17 year old.
I have personally gone through almost a years worth of Monitored Ketamine Infusion treatment for drug-resistant major depressive disorder and managed to get off heavy meds the doctor kept me on for "in case" it was helping to some degree, but we both knew it was doing nothing - but at least the placebo felt like we were trying. It took away idealation from session 1, i'm now on maintenance, and it's truly made a world of a difference for me. I am so beyond thankful I tried.
So, now I am considering it for my son, who is 17 and battles horribly with mood regulation. The thing is, he's very high-functioning autistic, but the mood regulation due to his EQ is severely impacting life, to the point - I don't know how to get him through school, and he's already at specialised schooling. Everything is too hard, and his EQ makes it harder because you're dealing with a child in an almost adult-sized body.
Has anyone used it to assist a child with Autism of any degree? Have you seen any improvements with rewiring cognitive ability for regulation with a child/adult with Autism? I just feel that at this point, if I can mentally get him to a level of just coping with life, half the battle would be won.
I work closely with a neurologist, who has given the green light for me to try it, but doesn't have the patient experience with Ketamine Infusion on cases like this to be able to reference any success rates. We're just going based on the hopes that it will work for him as it did for me.
Really hoping someone here has tried, as I am just at a loss of what more to do to help him.
