Ever since I could remember, I was OBSESSED with zoology. As a child, I refused to watch cartoons, movies and read books that weren't animal centered. I adored, and still do, to watch animal documentaries. I'd do that rather than watch anything else that was running on the television. I never played with any toys that aren't animal figures either.
When I got to first grade, I'd only play role play games with other kids to play as a animal. Whenever anyone wanted to play other games with me, I'd refuse to play along unless I was extremely bored.
I've always thought that everyone had a specific interest in something from the moment they were born. Very bad comparison, but I thought the world and other people worked by similar rules to My Little Pony where everyone is destined to have a talent and a unique knowledge in something from the moment they take their first breath.
However as I got older and started meeting more people, I noticed that this wasn't the case. I've never actually met another person that had this kind of devotion to a specific topic. Most I'd see from my friends is them becoming extremely passionate about something for a month or two before completely dropping it.
In my case, I'm in my last semester of college and am still just as curious and passionate about zoology as I have been as a child.
Recently, I got even more curious about this kind of interest, as my classmates and other people that surround me started giving me a side-eye?😭
So like, I don't know how common this is in people now?
I can't find anything relating to that at all when I try to look it up. I only get articles about hyperfixations (as in an interest you have for a couple of months before losing it immediately), but that's the exact opposite of what I'm experiencing.
So I want to know if there are more people with similar things to that or if I'm just weird.
