Finally secured a placement as an international student!!

I'm a 2nd year undergrad at a Russell group uni studying compsci, super super glad I finally secured a placement, the interview was my last shot at getting one and it went so well I got the offer the literal next day.

Some takeaways:

  • Employers are skeptical of international applicants (trouble retaining after graduation because of sponsorship requirement)
  • Meeting face to face is NUMBER 1 PRIORITY to reassure employers that you're a real person and to showcase your skills in person
  • Personal projects, taking part in related societies, and hackathon participation very helpful
  • Do a lot of background research, prepare well, and be personable and relaxed in the interview

Still smiling like an idiot looking at the offer letter. It's a really good placement and 5 minute walk from my current accom. This probably won't get much visibility but if any intl students have questions, feel free to ask me anything
