I need advice/help, I’m moving from Vancouver WA (by Portland OR) to Chicago IL in June. I’ve lived in WA my whole life and I’ve always been accepted for my apartment applications since 2018 and have always stayed full term or done two lease terms and my renters history is great.

However, I’ve applied to three apartments in Chicago that I love and this is the first time I’ve ever had to go through a screening third-party. All three places are using RentGrow, and I’ve been told I qualify financially and renter history wise but the RentGrow report came back with a denial due to credit score.

I disputed this due to the fact that they chose the bureau with the lowest reported score which is 150 points less than the other two. And I also disputed and talked to both rent agents and the property management stating that the reason the credit score is bad is because of a car accident and being unable to work for a year and a half, so I didn’t make payments when I was younger and stupid. The property management, my scores been increasing since I got back to work two years ago, however there was a huge dock. All my recent payments for the last two years have been on time.

I’ve tried going to property management and also stating that I’d pay a deposit sign longer lease terms or I’d be willing to have higher lease cutoff fees if the dispute still come back with an unfavorable answer from RentGrow. Do I have any options to still get accepted for these apartments if the screening service disqualifies me because of score?
