I’ve tried growing corn (zone 7a) multiple years with no success. It’s always short, produces very small ears and not very bright green. I’m guessing most likely nitrogen deficiency? Soil is clay based but I have tilled in a good bit of manure and grass clippings over the last few years, everything else I plant does wonderful. I’m seeing suggestions for ammonium sulfate, does that sound right? Other suggestions? Also, I’m planting in 4 rows, rows 2.5-3’ apart and plants every 10-12” and using weed barrier. In years past it’s been without the barrier, an weeds/grass have taken over, so I’m hoping I have at least that improvement this year.
