Fellow working moms, share your sage weaning wisdom!

I am not in a rush to wean. We’re at 12m, and I’d like to take things slow and follow my baby’s cues. But how do you follow your baby’s cues when your baby is at daycare and half his feeds are offered by someone else?

Currently, on days I work, I breastfeed three times and pump four times daily.

He feeds straight from the tap at bedtime (which is already hit or miss as he just ate dinner and is often full), once around 2am, and once at his morning wake. On my days off when I’m home with him, I feed when he seems to want it, usually around three more times throughout the day.

I would happily keep this up as long as he wants. But in order to provide milk for daycare, I have been needing to pump three times at work and once before bed to top the bottles off and be sure they have enough. The pumping is the part that I’m more than happy to do away with. But I also know that as I decrease my pumps, my supply will be dipping on my days off too.

I don’t want to rush things, but I also would love to not have to constantly be carving out pumping time at work. How did you strike the balance? My thought is just to start by dropping one afternoon pumping session at work and see where that lands us. Any tips on how to know when it’s time to drop another pump?
