Hey everyone, I’m 22 and planning a move to the GVA, probably Burnaby, from another province around July/August to go back to school. I’m going to be starting at Douglas College for an associate’s in Computer Science and maybe transferring to UBC or SFU in my 2nd or 3rd year. I’m pretty introverted and won’t know anyone when I get there, so I was hoping to chat with some people beforehand and maybe make a few friends to meet up with once I get there.
I’m a big gamer and have been playing a lot of Overwatch, TFT, Minecraft, Path of Exile, and random roguelites/friendslop lately. I also just started getting into anime and began One Piece, so I’m definitely open to recommendations. I’m a bit outdoorsy too, getting back into the gym, and I love skiing. It would be cool to pick up a non winter sport as well.
I’m also starting to look into housing and would really appreciate any advice. I’ve been thinking about renting a 2 or 3 bedroom place and splitting it with one or two other people, so if anyone is looking for a roommate around that time or has any leads, feel free to reach out haha. I’m also curious if there are any areas I should avoid or things to watch out for when apartment hunting in Burnaby or Vancouver.
I’d also love to hear what people like or don’t like about living in Vancouver, things to do, and anything I should know or avoid as someone new. If you’re around my age (or not) and down to talk, feel free to say hi. It’d be really nice to know a few people before I make the move. Thanks!
