Hi all,
I’m currently interviewing for a role. I had my first interview last Monday morning, and later that same day, I found out I was being made redundant at my current job. Yesterday I had my second interview with the recruiter (my first round was with the hiring manager, who I’d reached out to on LinkedIn and was then referred internally).
I didn’t mention the redundancy because I was worried it might reflect poorly on me. I wanted the focus to stay on my initiative in securing the interview and my skills, especially since I’m already a little underqualified for the role.
That said, I know this will likely come up during background checks. The recruiter asked about my notice period, and I said one month (which is technically true since I’d need a month’s notice for my landlord, as the job is in a different city).
My question is: should I proactively email the recruiter now to let them know I was made redundant last Monday, or wait until I’m further along in the process? I haven’t lied, but I don’t want this to look misleading later.
Thanks in advance for any guidance!
