A Raccoon bit my cats paw
I’ve just gotten back from a weeklong trip to my hometown yesterday. When I got home, I did attempt to check on my cats for a very quick moment, but my priorities were set on playing on my brothers computer more so. Anyway, today I JUST now noticed my cat, Ziggy, was limping. I asked my mom why he was limping, and she nonchalantly replied “oh he got bit by a raccoon.” And I flipped immediately because I’ve been educated on the disgusting saliva raccoons have, and how it can cause serious infections or diseases like RABIES and others. Ziggy is acting off, and he does usually scratch or try to jump off of me if I hold him for too long or agitate him too much. I’m a teenager and my caretaker is my Mother, and she’s been drinking so she’s no help for going to the vet at this hour, and everything is closed regardless. I’ve been looking up vets near me for the past hour, and I’ve been sending them emails and filling applications in order to receive an appointment for Ziggy. Ziggy is a large, male tomcat. My mom’s boyfriend doesn’t let me keep any animal except for my dog inside, and I have a lot of outdoor animals. Namely my cats, three other dogs and rabbits. I’m paranoid and in distress over the fact that I can’t do anything right this instance, and even worse off because I haven’t received word from a vet quick enough for my comfort. But I understand that that’s because they’re all closed at this hour. I have anxiety with phone calls, and my mom isn’t calling anyone and her excuse is that she will later (when she drinks wine she gets weird and just doesn’t listen to me) after pacing back and forth in my mind about the possibility of this being fatal for ziggy, I went outside to check on him after using chat bots and reading websites to figure out what I’m supposed to look for in order to determine his symptoms. Upon that, I looked at ziggy’s paw and alas! He had a pale pocket bubble on his wound. I got grossed out and got my mom, she decided to POP IT and it squirted blood EVERYWHERE on me and the bathroom, and ziggy was already distressed because my cats aren’t used to being inside and when I bring them in they get all scared on me and try to leap out of my arms. Ziggy scratched my arm but it was shallow, the blood started to make me cry cuz that’s my baby bro, I’m scared and don’t want to lose him because of a stupid raccoon. Anyway, mom yelled at me to find gauze, and I found some. Mom sprayed HUMAN ANTIBIOTICS on his paw, then wrapped the gauze around his paw. Ziggy started to calm down more while I reassured him he was gonna be okay. He didn’t try to hurt me or my mom or go to extreme measures to stop my mom from wrapping the gauze, so the wound either isn’t hurting to THAT extent or my mom wasn’t pressing down hard, idk. I carried Ziggy back outside, and poured cat food down for my cats. Ziggy started to eat, and he seemed fine. (Because the chat bots told me to monitor whether he eats or drinks) and my mom said he was like this for the past 5 days, but she changed up her story and is confusing me now. I don’t think it’s been that long, but I’m not confident. My mom is being a tad stingy about taking him to a veterinary clinic, but that’s the wine and her hating to spend money talkin, methinks. I want to take him to a vet as soon as possible, and I’m refusing to accept that he MIGHT develop rabies or some other disgusting disease that takes my baby from me. (I realize how random that sounds, but I meant because the chat bots told me I have to be prepared for the possible outcome that I’d have to euthanize my baby if he does have rabies) I am gonna lock in and refuse the possibility. Tis a mere concept to me. Anyway PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help me idk what I need help with but I really need reassurance here. I’m really worried about the fact that my mom POPPED the gross bubble thing and then sprayed HUMAN ANTIBIOTICS on him, but there is literally no argument to make right now. I’m trying to be empty minded to avoid the dreadful feeling that we just worsened his condition.
