Question - Is this heavy duty extension cord safe for an AC unit?
My AC unit's cord isn't long enough to reach my wall outlet and there isn't any other way for me to plug it in without an extension cord due to various reasons. I don't know anything about electrical stuff so hopefully I can get some opinions on using an extension cord.
I know that it's a fire hazard to use an extension cord for AC units but I did a little research and I found that you could use one if you get the right one. My AC unit's prongs say that it uses 10a, 120vac, 60hz, and 1200w. The cord that I'm looking at is the Iron Forge outdoor 6 ft extension cord. In the description it says:
"UL Certified: 10 GAUGE 3 prong grounded plug, 6 foot, 15 amp extension cord, 125 volt, 1875 watt, 5-15P/R, UL Certified. Temperature Range: -40°F to +140°F"
Would this be safe enough to use as a workaround so I don't melt this summer?
