Longtime deer hunter, first season turkey hunter. I’m going out this coming weekend for the first time. I’ve been watching lots of videos and while I don’t hold a lot of hope for getting one on my first sit, I want to be ready. I’m in Colorado and I’m having trouble understanding how folks here typically process the bird to stay in compliance with the transport laws. In watching processing videos, it seems most just breast the bird out and are done with it. Easy enough if the bird is at home. But I must leave proof of sex attached. Yet all videos I’ve seen of the butchering are obviously done at home. Are Turkey okay to transport home and then process? With deer I always field dress asap and get cooling (skin and hang), as that’s how I was taught. The unit I’m hunting is about 90min from home. Throw whole bird into cooler and deal with it at home? Something else? How do yall do it in the real world?
