My 18-month-old was previously sleep trained and reliably sleeping 12 hours a night in his crib. Two weeks ago, everything changed. He suddenly developed a massive aversion to his crib and cries the moment he sees it. For the last week, I’ve been rocking him for 90 minutes and transferring him at 9:00 PM. He then wakes up screaming at 12:30 AM and stays awake until 3:00 AM. After a second transfer, he’s up for the day by 6:00 AM. My sleep consultant suggested a schedule tweak and putting him down wide awake, but he screamed for 60 minutes straight until I gave in and rocked him. It’s heart-wrenching now because he’s calling out "Mama" and "Dada." Is there any way to successfully rock a toddler to sleep without them waking up during the transfer? Or are we stuck with re-training?
