Evolutionary Ecology and Biology: Midwest USA R1
Just looking for ways to help her feel better.
She’s always anxious before any conference or big presentation, and always does well. So she in general never feels assured by her work until after it’s over and someone gives her the thumbs up.
So now after submitting her dissertation and waiting for feedback, she’s just spiraling thinking it’s awful work and not her best. Feels like she ran out of time and didn’t do enough etc. One chapter is already published work and a second is likely going to be per her advisor, however the third chapter she feels is weak.
She’s in a STEM field (evolutionary biology) so it’s way out of my depth, and I can only provide superficial feedback and support. Just trying to make her feel less stressed and maybe give some assurance.
Thanks for any advice or help
UPDATE: Her advisor finally got back to her and had only some minor edits, which has helped her feel more at ease. She’s still anxious but def now less freaked out since her advisor gave his feedback.
Hoping the next week and half goes well as she preps for her defense. Thanks all for so much help. I’ve lingered in this sub a lot over the last few months as she’s grinded away with highs and lows. Just learning that so many people are going crazy trying to earn their PhD.
