Description:
Size
Approximately 1.25" x just under 1"
Weight: 12g
Feels slightly heavy for its size
Appearance
Base color: dark blue-gray
Light gray metallic bands following the foliation
Cream/tan patches on the less refined specimen of same rock type
Some red visible between layers earlier, possibly minor oxidation
Surface property's
Light gray bands have a distinctive metallic fibrous flash
Flash is directional but shifts slightly with viewing angle
Non-flash areas are duller and more matte
No green undertone to the flash — purely silver-gray
Hardness:
Softer than a utility blade(on the darker part)
Much harder than graphite
Nearly invisible scratch from ceramic suggesting possibly harder than ceramic (Mohs 6.5+)
Streak test:
Initial test: dull gray, wiped off completely
Second test: slightly shinier line, took a few rubs to remove
Third test: very light gray, almost invisible, possible ceramic abrasion rather than true streak
Non-ferromagnetic
Weathering behaviors
Slight rust only on exposed layer edges on the sides
Rust appears within minutes when wet
Flash bands do not rust
Dark gray areas do not rust
Rust is minimal and very localized
