Please help me plan a trip with my parents.

Renting a car in Heraklion. My original thought was the follow the coastline all the way to Matala. Come to find out there is no road for such a trip. I have 1 night booked in Loutro and would love to hike down the Samaria Gorge, but unsure what to do other than that.

Primary question: Is the section between Hora Sfakion and Matala worth the extra hours of driving? Or should I stay east of Sougia???

I'll be in Crete for a month but just trying to show my parents a good time.
