Tip Sharing Makes It An Even Bigger Scam. Went to a restaurant with a huge menu, like 100+ choices, a national chain. There were five of us, thankfully no auto grat. So a $200 bill roughly, good service though the apps and food was a little slow. Two in our party though about ordering specialty cocktails, nope they said, no prices on the menu. How does a national chain put something on the menu without prices? Do we need to ask the server? Anyways check comes and I figure 15% is good even though that’s like $30 bucks for an hour and a half. I’m like almost 70 and think wow I wish I made $50 - $60 an hour when I was that young and inexperienced. Anyways, then I realize she has to share that with others like the kitchen staff, food runners, people refilling our water, maybe the kitchen manager gets a cut. Then it struck me, damm I’m subsidizing everyone’s wages with this tip. No way, I’m done with it. The menu prices, at least those listed were already 20-25% above market. No, I won’t be going back and no I won’t be tipping again. Just pay your staff, don’t expect customers to make up for it!

Took my kids, grand kids and friends there tonight for the first time in a couple of years. The auto grat policy was outlined on the menu. Applies for parties of 8 or more. It also said this is strictly optional and if you want it removed just ask. Now that was refreshing. Obvious, clear, and well written it was optional. A lesson for others.
