Is this Dumb: Which Plasma Cutter?
A couple of years ago, a business friend gave me his old Thermal Dynamics Cutmaster 38. Aside from playing around with it one day, I still haven't even used it. Plasma cutting is not real high on my list of needs, but it was free. It's heavy and bulky, but I have now at least placed it on the bottom of a welding cart.
Due to a special Amazon program that I'm in, I just ordered a free Silatu STC550P, 55 amp, pilot arc IGBT plasma cutter. It will be arriving in a couple of days. It is "fancy", compact, and light, compared to the Cutmaster, and it supposedly can handle thicker material with a heavier duty cycle.
The pilot arc time is adjustable; the post air is adjustable, and the air regulator control is on the front panel. The pressure gauge is digital and includes a test button so you can see the actual pressure with the gas flowing, and includes a safety cutoff if air is not present.
I am purely DIY and Thermal Dynamics is way overkill for my needs, but yes, it is bullet proof. The Silatu has a lot of positive reviews, and I like the modern features.
Would I be stupid to sell the Cutmaster (assuming I can get several hundred for it), and keep the Silatu?
