This sub changed my life (for the better)
Seriously.
I've been refreshing this (and the original) sub for the past few months. Almost religiously before bed.
What I've learnt? So much. I'm at least 70% more vigilant when out in public. When I cross a road, I look both ways 2,3,4 times. I listen for approaching cars, motorbikes, potential cars speeding.
When I'm out in the city, I glance up when walking under scaffolding (super common to see in my area). Why do i look up? Because how stupid it would be if I were struck dead by a brick whilst staring at my phone. Or worse a human having bad day.
I used to think motorcycles were cool. Now I look at them the same way I do cigarettes. Stupid, reckless, guaranteed at some point to cause serious harm (but still cool).
India - never going. Sorry.
Speeding? Most of my fellow Londoner motorists will have experienced the dreadful implementation of 20mph speed zones. I used to HATE this new law. I'd moan about it pretty much whenever I get in the car. Now? I barely go over 18mph, im looking at every blindspot, checking over my bloody shoulder on turns. Seeing so many lives lost, futures just wiped out from carelessness really put things into perspective for me. The extra 10 minutes on my commute is so worth it.
TRAINS. Ive been taking the train to uni everyday for 3 years. I do not stand anywhere close to the platform, i dont want to be pushed onto the rails. I make sure I am not sitting on top the train, or hanging off the side (this part is not toooo difficult in the UK😅).
Machinery. Although ive worked many manual labour jobs over the past few summers, I will hopefully not need to worry about this part as my industry is rather boring in that respect. However, if I do find myself working with an industrial lathe, shredder, mixer, or anything that moves - I will certainly be 10000 times more mindful.
GUNS. I am, like a lot of men, a huge gun enthusiast. Not for the harm aspect, but more because they're satisfying, cool to have on the wall, admire their design ect.
I've not got and don't plan of having any real guns. I do however have a nice collection of airsoft guns which I handle with even more care than before. I do not look down the barrel to inspect a jam. I do not record tiktoks throwing gangs signs and waving them whilst loaded and primed at friends or my own head.
Fireworks. No. I just can't fathom ever trusting an explosive. I think I've seen quite possibly every possible degree of partial/full hand amputation on this sub.
Overall. I do think I'm at least more likely to avoid at least a negligent death. But a freak final destination style accident out of my control? Well I can only hope and pray.
Good luck out there.
