I've had mild perimenopause symptoms for a year or so (some mood swings, insomnia), but my cycles have been regular and I've been able to manage the mood/sleep issues with lifestyle changes. However, the past 6 weeks have introduced crazy changes to my period and mood. After regular cycles my whole life, I've had 3 periods in 6 weeks, none of my regular signs of ovulation, plus major mood swings and insomnia. It's like I'm going from period to PMS to period to PMS. I can barely function at work or as a mom. I'm seeing my gyno tomorrow for an urgent visit. Is it common to request and receive hormone therapy as soon as symptoms become disruptive to your daily life? Any advice on what questions to ask or what to expect in a conversation about these symptoms?

My 8 year old was recently diagnosed with ADHD, predominantly inattentive type and co-occurring generalized anxiety disorder and depressive symptoms. He's had a really tough 2-3 years in school (even with an IEP, his general education teachers haven't been understanding), difficulty keeping friends, very anxious and low confidence, and generally feeling bad about himself. We've started CBT and parent coaching with a child psychologist. For meds, the psychiatrist gave us the option of starting with an ADHD medication or anxiety/depression medication (and then adding the other med once we've stabilized the first med). We started with fluoxetine for the anxiety/depression as an urgent concern impacting his day-to-day wellbeing. He's on day 4 of the fluoxetine. I haven't noticed major side effects. He does seem a little groggy in the mornings. I've heard the first 2-3 weeks can be really rough. For those of you who have kiddos that take fluoxetine, what were the first few weeks like? My son's birthday is in 2 weeks. We've planned a party with school friends. He's excited but nervous about it and I'm hoping he feels well that day. Thank you!

I'm also interested in hearing from parents of kids with ADHD and anxiety/depression - did you you start with the ADHD meds or anxiety/depression meds first? I'm feeling unsure about whether I made the right choice starting with the anxiety. Thank you!!
