[General-CA-AB] Renter stinks like, idk a civil word to describe this.
My mom rents out her basement and our current renter is a slob. He’s been in our basement since 2019 now, and every three months my mom has to go down there and clean it herself. He somehow burns tomato soup on the regular, misses the toilet sometimes, and soils himself on the couch and doesn't clean. Whenever we have to go down there we have to wear slippers and a face mask, sometimes doubled just to grap something from our freezer. I know there's bugs roaming around down there but I haven't stuck around long enough to see any. I do not have enough experience in my 15 years of life to accurately describe the stench. When you go down there it's immediate. I would've said it smelled like a pickled dead body and freshly fermented cat pee ammonia-flavoured beer, but I’ve yet to actually smell those things. It burns your nostrils when you inhale it. I am not joking. We're lucky that we are separated by a floor, and two doors, but it still rises up through the vents sometimes. The smell even permeates to our shared washing machine. As you can tell I do not like this man. He's a bigger guy who can’t move around that well but still walks to his minimum wage job as a gas station worker. I think he's in his forties or early fifties. He used to give me plushies as a kid, he's a nice guy whose having financial troubles currently, but I want him gone. Not just for me, but for my poor 60-year-old mother with a herniated disk in her spine who acts like a personal maid to clean his literal shit hole of a living space. I try to offer to help but she denies. And not gonna lie, I don't think I could last ten minutes down there if I tried. There's much more that I can complain about but I won’t go any further. I realize this may be a breach of privacy, but my mom charges him like $1300 cad and a cleaning service for his faecal matter stains. He is late on rent most months. I know we are not the greatest landlords, he has the night shift so he hears our footsteps whenever he's trying to sleep, and we frequently cook fish and various other stinky foods but I don't think we did anything to warrant going through this fiery stinky torment.
The reason why my mom hasn't kicked this guy my mom is a very empathetic woman. She pities him hard and cries for him. I think she's gotten attached to him. Both, me and moms boyfriend have been telling her for years to evict him. But she won't listen. And she can't just stop cleaning after him or else our basement will just get worse and rot away and become permanent. Perhaps maybe it has.
Idk what I wanna get out of this post. Maybe someone could give me advice what to say to my mom to convince her. I'm happy to just to vent out my frustrations about the man in my basement who I once caught chopping onions naked through the basement windows. And now every time I hear him chopping onions through the floors I think about how there could be a naked old man under my feet. It keeps me awake at night. I realize this might not comply with the guidelines, I'm just incredibly tired.
