I got this feral foster cat about 2 weeks ago who was rescued from an industrial neighborhood. I was told she was a kitten, but when she came she was quite large and looked well fed. I have been sitting in the room with her everyday but have not been able to get close to her. She has hissed and growled but not swatted.

I have a male cat of my own so last night I left her room door open for 5 minutes to let them meet. Late at night I heard her meowing for the first time, which I assumed was to call for my cat for help or something but google told me not to respond to the meows, so I left it.

This afternoon I heard small kitten meows and checked in her room and saw a newborn kitten! I could discern 2 kittens and the lady from my foster agency just said to give her privacy, food, and make sure the kittens are suckling. I filled up her food bowl and water and sat with her for a little bit and then she birthed ANOTHER kitten!!

I’m a bit in shock, she didn’t make any noise while birthing, so I left her alone to take care of the kittens. I am wondering how best to support her. She is just on the hardwood floor hidden behind a mattress. Unfortunately, I can’t get too close to her without her growling. I want her to be comfortable, but I’m not sure how to make it happen. Do I keep the room closed? For how long? We also have another roommate who was supposed to move into that room in 2 days, but now I feel like I should give her at least a week with her kittens. Please help!
