I’m from India and currently running my own software/web agency. My work is now around 20–30% coding and 70% management, client handling, planning, operations, etc.
NOTE : IF I GO TO JAPAN , I WILL CONTINUE WORKING FOR MY AGENCY AS WELL As THERE IS NOT MUCH DIFFERENCE IN JPN AND IND CURRENCY AS COMPARED TO THE EUROPE AND IND
Background, my_qualifications:
- BSc Computer Science
- System development( websites , apps , etc)
- site: tanayagency.in .
- projects: dodobooking.com , dodorealtyweb.tanayagency.in , indians.tanayagency.in , etc and many more)
Recently I started considering applying for MEXT in 2027, but I’m confused whether it makes sense for someone already running a business.
My main reasons:
- I want to get a stable job in the fields of project/ product management in IT if possible
- I want to get exposure to another culture , make full of my life , travel , learn , enjoy
But at the same time:
- My agency is growing not so fast but slowly
- I only have one employee who works for me Remotely so i dont mind going to JPN
- I’m unsure whether 2–3 years in academia is worth the opportunity cost
I’m not looking for “anime/Japan fantasy” opinions honestly — more practical advice from:
- MEXT students
- founders who studied abroad
- people working in Japan tech
- researchers in IT/project management/HCI
Would Japan actually help someone with my profile, or would scaling the business directly in India make more sense?
Also:
- how hard is it to transition from research → industry/startups in Japan
Would appreciate realistic opinion
