Word of Advice
I have been reading the posts on this sub for the last few weeks or so. A few things I have noticed that will never change for the better :
Going for "Tags" instead of good academia, and better opportunities. During my time, I remember people who joined IITs in some villages just because they are IITs, and struggled to get good opportunities.
Falling for hype, not researching placements for the last few years. Just research on LinkedIn, and you'll get a fair idea about the alumni, and where they work at. I am hearing a few new names in the mix, and people are confidently suggesting them.
Some of you are so distant from reality, I saw a post where a person with a 1000ish rank is asking whether it's worth to quit his 4 LPA job. Are you for real ?.. Anyone under 2000 rank right now can get really good colleges if you actually research properly. IIIT B, IIIT H (through PGEE) is a godsend for all of you, I still can't believe it's reaching a cutoff that high in the first place. Maybe because of the fees aspect. But it's among the top heavy hitters in terms of both placements and academia. Go into debt if you have to, or can afford it (not financial advice), but I strongly feel these colleges are way better than NITs, and will in the future be considered equal to IITs because the basis of their existence is academia, and research.
There are a lot of people misguiding on this sub, telling them to join College A over College B. You are asking guidance from your competitors. Everyone of you is capable of doing individual research, collect data points and come to an informed decision, talk to various colleges' alumni if required.
Taking random newly launched specialisations without any placement record just because it's an IIT is basically career suicide unless you are planning to get into research in that field.
Comparing college fests, or the campus size as if they haven't wasted enough time during their bachelor's already.
I know it's hypocritical of me to give a tier list, especially when I am an anon on the internet, but for whatever it's worth, I'll do it anyway.
It's strictly my opinion, During my time, I had taken not just placement, but also the quality of academia, and overall relevance of the content in the CSE course into account :
IISc, IIT B, M, D, Kgp, K,
IIT Roorkee, IIT Hyd, IIT Guw, IIIT H/IIIT B, BITS Pilani (only main campus)
NIT-T, NIT-K, NIT-W
If I have missed any college, it is probably intentional (For e.g IIT BHU during my time had abysmal placements for mtech because they weren't even allowed to sit for many companies, Idk the current scenario.) The above colleges can be obtained by under 2000 rank students currently because there are people who are misguided into random colleges, so you all are in luck.
Done with my unc rant, until next time 🙏
PS : About me - got 600ish rank, masters from IIIT B, working as Senior SDE at a reputed firm now. I have tried to be as unbiased as possible. DMs always open.
