The student petition has reached 4,200 signatures and is now with the Ministry of Education

The petition has reached over 4266 verified signatures

major milestone for the student-led movement in the Maldives.

As of today, the petition regarding school hair regulations and student identity has officially surpassed 4,200 verified signatures. I have been in direct communication with yvl zeo (known on Reddit as u/kataaannaaaaa), the person who started the petition, to provide a verified update on the next phase of this movement.

The Current Status:

  • Direct from the Founder: yvl zeo has confirmed that the petition has successfully reached the Ministry of Education. It is no longer just a digital goal; it is a formal grievance being discussed by the authorities.
  • The Motive: Speaking on why they started this, yvl zeo highlighted a national "breaking point." Students and parents are increasingly vocal about the impact of strict regulations on self-esteem and the prevalence of bullying.
  • A National Conversation: What started as a single petition has turned into a widespread protest, fueled by the community's refusal to stay silent.

A Statement from the Founder, yvl zeo:

The Road Ahead While the Ministry’s review is a massive win for yvl zeo and the thousands who signed, the conversation is just beginning. We will continue to track the Ministry's response as it develops.

MY HAIR ≠ MY EDUCATION | what do you think about this?

I’ve been seeing a petition going around in the Maldives about school haircut rules.

Some students are apparently being sent home or missing classes because their hair doesn’t meet school standards.

The argument people are making is pretty simple, hair doesn’t affect how someone learns, but strict rules like this can affect confidence and even access to education.

It’s already reached around 3,799 verified signatures in about a day, which is kind of wild.

I’m not trying to promote anything, just genuinely curious:

Do you think schools should be this strict about appearance?
Or should students have more freedom?

If anyone wants to look into it themselves, you can easily find the petition online.

Interested to hear different opinions, especially from students and teachers here.

There’s currently a petition asking to stop schools from forcing students to cut their hair just to attend classes

Some students are being sent home or missing education because of hairstyle rules

The main argument is simple:
Hair doesn’t affect learning, but strict enforcement like this can affect confidence, identity, and access to education

Do you think schools should control student appearance to this level? or should students have more freedom?

If you want to check it out or support:
