Weight loss after having a baby
I’ve struggled with my weight my whole life. I’ll get down to my goal weight, then old habits slowly creep back in and I gain it all back plus some. Right now I’m around 215 lbs. Before having my kid (who just turned 1), my “normal” was 195. It feels like every few years I hit a new plateau and stay there — 160, then 180, then 195, and now 215.
The frustrating part is that I’m actually a really active person. My biggest issue is food. I genuinely feel addicted to it sometimes. I would love to get back to 160, but every time I’ve been there, it felt like I had to starve myself just to maintain it, which made me miserable.
Crossing 200 lbs was always this mental line I told myself I’d never get past, so I think that’s finally what’s making me realize I need to seriously change my eating habits and relationship with food. During pregnancy I gained 43 lbs, so my highest weight was 239. I know pregnancy weight is different and I lost most of it after my baby was born, but still… dang.
For those who’ve lost weight what’s actually helped you stick with it long term? And for anyone who’s had to start over again (and again), how did you mentally get back into it without feeling defeated?
