I can’t digest some foods, and my most severe restriction is garlic. How can I avoid garlic while eating in budget restaurants and having street foods? My trip includes Beijing, Xian, Chengdu, Yangshuo, and Hong Kong.

I have allergies and asthma. I’m considering a budget group trip to China (Intrepid’s “China Experience” trip. The hotels will mostly be fairly basic. How smoky are hotel rooms likely to be? I don’t mind encountering some smoke while I’m awake (and probably wearing an N99 mask), but sleeping makes smoke-avoidance challenging.
