Small Off-Grid System Design - 460W Solar + 12V Battery + 500W Inverter (Sense Check)
Hey folks, I live in South UK (Reading) and over the next few months I'm planning to setup an off-grid solar system in my back garden. I have a shed which has a south facing roof and I am designing it for a continuous 24/7 load of 25W from the inverter's AC output.
I've drawn out my design above based on days of research (this group was super helpful!) and I am quite confident that I got everything covered to get this working, but since I don't have an electrical background, I am always worried of something I didn't know I missed!
I wanted to check a couple of things
- I am trying to reduce the overall cost. Based on my desired load, have I overspec'd any of the components in my design?
- Am I missing any other safety aspects, I assume my fuses and circuit breakers would suffice
- I heard that I could damage my battery if I drew from the inverter at zero battery charge. How likely is this, and am I ok to ignore this protection; or do I NEED to buy a separate battery protection module
Very open to any other comments or criticism!
Thanks!
