Initially I was a bit iffy on the immortis guard's price and ability of disabling a charging opponent unit's weapon ability, but it is kind of good value against units with Crit Mortal. An extreme example is Varanguard (+1dmg charge, crit mortal), but they might be quite an outlier with their 2 weapon abilities.
In my game today i ran a 3 man squad of them and they truly did great as an anvil, both fairly tanky and has a decent damage potential if ignored. It felt like they overperformed in my new ranged castle list. Running the immortis out front in the center on turn one to grab an objective and sit back with my triaxes, crawler and morghast seems great if it manages to lure out something more expensive than themselves, and most things under 200 pts is going to struggle when you have the option to react with all out defense and a discipline for a 2+ save and 5+ ward on 12 hp.
Thoughts? Have anyone else used them to good effect or are they still just too expensive and 5 deathriders is preferable in their stead?
