My landlord opened my financial statements

My landlord gave me my mail today and I noticed she opened one of my financial statements and she wrote “sorry” on the envelope.

Every year she’s always hounding me about increasing the rent and one year she said “ you can increase it to whatever you want. Just take a look at how much everybody else is paying in the area.” which would’ve been a few hundred dollars, which is illegal as I am in British Columbia Canada.

During COVID-19, she increased the rent by $100 when we had a rent freeze.

She’s been hounding me every single year to increase to rent illegally and she even did that last year! Suddenly, the Wi-Fi that had always been included in my rental agreement was not included anymore and I had to pay an extra $98 for that

Keep in mind no letter was presented. No official notice. No nothing.

I abided by it because I work from home and I didn’t have time to even consider setting that up myself. I was also afraid to lose my place during COVID-19 as I had just lost my mother and I wasn’t in the right mental space to make decisions or vouch for myself in any way. To be honest, I think she just took advantage of me and my mental state at that time as I was grieving for my mother and I didn’t want to be homeless obviously.

Backstory… I’ve been here for 13 maybe 14 years and my rent is definitely amazing! I know I shouldn’t complain. I should just abide but now you’re opening my statements… Why? You don’t even bank there? I pay my rent by checks and I can confirm that she does not bank where I bank at all.

I’m not sure what to do. I really don’t want to go through all the drama of this if I report this to the rental board, but I know something needs to be done as this is going way too far and now my sin number is compromise, cause God only knows what they can do with it.
