Remote access to home network
I would like to allow for remote access to my router, hypothetically just in case one of the kids wants access to Disney or Netflix. I have a BE3600 router. Everyone uses Firesticks for access to the various services. I'm pretty tech savvy, but not for this, so I figured asking would be better than my usual trial-and-error approach. I guess I'm still having flashbacks to the h*ll I caught when years ago I created an open relay on a Windows server I was playing around at work while trying to create my own email server. 😄
From the home site is it as simple as enabling Remote Management on my end? I can't guarantee they'll have the same IP all the time so I guess I would need to allow for any IP (0.0.0.0 for the location IP)?
For them, is it as simple as using a VPN on their TV to log into my router and then it's business as usual for whatever app they want to launch? I don't have a static IP or dynamic name, but it rarely (if ever) changes and if so they can wait until I get home to let them know about the new IP. 😄
I read something about the Tether App can make it easy. I have that on my phone, but I'm not sure about it being available for the Firestick. It that a) possible, and b) easier/safer?
I appreciate any feedback you wish to offer up.
