I was hoping to get some help with my somewhat unique situation. I have two familial ties to Canada that I know of, one would make me G7 but he was born in Ontario. The issue is that I cannot find any information on his birth, just census records that may or may not be him. His name was Joesph Kentner, and he married Phebe A. Decker, all according to ancestory. He was born around 1817 and immigrated to the USA. So my issue with that lead is that the sources seem really weak.
However, I have a closer tie with my G0, and G-1 (I would be G5). The problem with this lineage is that G-1 Immigrated from Germany with my G0 also being born in Germany, and although my G0 lived in Canada for many years (marriage and census docs) and had several children in Canada, my direct ancestor was one of his last kids and was born in Michigan. So despite the lengthy familiar history, no one in my direct line was born there. He does, however, have pretty good documentation, although I can't find any naturalization records. He was farmer, however, and from my limited knowledge, that suggests he had to take some sort of oath. This ancestor was Jacob Segmiller/Seegmiller/Segmüller (1835-1913), and his father, Friedrich Adam Seegmiller (1795-1867) brought him to Canada when he was young. If it helps at all, it looks like Friedrich died in Canada and is buried in Waterloo, so he was definitely around for a long time.
I guess to wrap it up I was hoping someone might have better luck than me in finding some documents regarding my more distant but candadian born ancestor, and some advice on which to use to try and establish my claim to citizenship. I'm not sure which would loom better on my paper, my guess is Joesph Kentner if ai could find a birth certificate.
