I barely use reddit but since I somewhat had one of the ''bigger'' Ashita no Joe channels (even if it was just mainly OST's), I just wanted to let you guys know that TMS issued 7 copyright strikes on the 27th of April onto my channel and it was completely terminated with no way for it to come back.
Genuinely this makes me pretty sad but also really fucking mad. I had some pretty big plans on vids that I was working on, such as a video about every single dub that exists of Ashita no Joe in every language and also a proper iceberg video that would've been hours long, but now I just don't think I'll ever finish them.
I could of course always create another channel, but if I'm honest I think the same thing will just happen again. I've seen a ton of AnJ channels come and go due to copyright strikes over the years, and I always believed it was due to visuals, so that's why I always used either images or very short gifs as to not risk it. But they STILL took those videos down, and mind you it was not for the visuals, but the AUDIO. My video ''R.I.P Ashita no Joe's iconic whistler'' was a video about the unknown whistler for the iconic s1 whistle, in it I used 5 seconds of footage from the anime and only the whistling in the background and they fully claimed the video for that. Which makes me think if I were to make a proper video it would still be taken down...
Videos where I have reconstructed unreleased OST's also get taken down which is pretty dumb when you think about it since you can't even listen to them anywhere else apart from the in the actual show where they aren't even complete half of the time.
The same thing happened to my good friend Yuki AD's channel a few weeks ago. It was terminated along with all of his amazing edits but also his own COVERS of the OST's and songs.
Also if you own a channel with Ashita no Joe videos, keep in mind that it seems like TMS is on a hunt right now to take down a lot of videos. They do all the copyright strikes at once to make sure you get terminated and since they are in Japan it's hard to dispute them. Private your videos if you want to not risk losing your channel.
I thought with the release of AnJ in the west that TMS would understand the importance of videos like these just to get more eyes onto the show, but I guess the copyright culture of Japan and the west are too different. Of course, they are 100% in their right to take my content down, I do not OWN it, but I'm still just really disappointed and sad about it especially considering that some of these tracks are not released and can only be reconstructed...
I might make a google drive in the future and put all of the tracks there for those who want to re-download the videos that got terminated. I'll make a reddit post about it if I end up doing it soon.
For now, thank you all to the people from all over the world who checked out the channel at some point, the comments were always full of different languages so it was always nice to see the show unite so many cultures and different people.
I might make a channel in the future for the bigger AnJ vids but for now, thank you all for the last 6 years.
