So the weather is getting nice and I figured you know what, I never set up Remote Play so I can sit outside and play some games on my laptop or iPad, I should give that a try.

Firstly, I set up Steam Remote which works actually pretty well. I seem to be getting 1080p60 without many issues. And then I tried PS5 Remote Play and... what the heck? Why does it run so... bad? No matter what I've tried it's always running at like 20 FPS.

My hardware setup is PS5 Pro wired (gigabit) to a (gigabit) switch that also has my PC plugged into it. That in turn connects to the actual router (also gigabit). The router is Wifi 6 and can pull ~1200 Mbit/s at the best of times, but admittedly drops to maybe half of that if I move a couple of rooms away. Still, that should be more than enough.

The PS Remote Play app (which I've tried on Mac and iPad, an M2 MacBook Air and an A16 iPad) honestly doesn't have a lot of options and only gives me setup resolutions for PS4 which is pretty unhelpful. There also aren't any indications of bandwidth or whatever, it's just that every game streams at a super choppy FPS.

I have no issues downloading games at full speed or playing multiplayer games on the PS5 Pro.

It can't be the actual connection since my PC uses the exact same connection and runs fine. It uses the exact same switch and that seems fine. It's just that the PS5 remote play kind of... sucks.

I also spotted someone having issues with HDMI-CEC being the culprit, so I disabled that and it made zero difference.

The only thing I can think of is that the PS5 Pro somehow decides that it shouldn't stream locally (which it doesn't tell me because the app doesn't tell me anything, argh!) and tries to go through the internet, but that also doesn't make any sense since my bandwidth should be more than enough for that. What am I doing wrong? What am I missing?
