Hi Everyone
2nd year grower here and looking for some advice. Last year was basically seeding late, tall leggy plants but did get some decent fruits by end of year. Everything in crowded pots and just a mess now looking back on it.
This year I seeded in early Feb, have some semi decent lights and plants 1 per pot... So I'm now looking towards the next month of getting them outside.
I've bought some 7 gallon pots as this seems like a sensible size for growing, and my next step is compost/soil. Last year I filled everything with B&Q's cheapest compost (Verve?). This year I'm wondering if that is still perfectly fine to do, or should I be filling pots with more quality. I've been potting on with Westlands John Innes (1?) young plant compost, and my thinking is to move to John Innes 2 stuff next. Plants will of course be fed throughout summer with feed as well.
- Is 100% compost the way to go, or should I be throwing in Perlite/Vermaculite as well?
- Is John Innes 2 the right general choice for summer growing?
- Are 7gal pots overkill or about right?
Any help appreciated!
