As if I needed even more experiential proof that these aren’t the same meds we used to get (re: migraines & Adderall)
I am a migraineur and just had my first experience with a status migraneosus diagnosis, where I had basically 5 weeks of being in a chronic migraine state.
How this ties into our sub: during my somewhat unending research for answers on how to get help for this current migraine hell, I discovered that brain fog is a very common symptom and also one that is reported to occur in between migraine episodes. I have a distinct memory of when I first got on Adderall, my headaches and migraine frequency, duration and pain level lessened noticeably. I recall that if I was in the throes of an episode and I took my ADHD medication, it would almost act as a migraine abortive and my brain would feel clear and calm and pain free.
Now? My migraines have increased to the point of needing to go to urgent care for a steroid dose pack taper and panic scheduling an emergency appointment with my GP next week to workshop preventatives. The brain fog never seems to clear. My Adderall dosage is higher now than it was back when the meds were working correctly and I am taking my Adderall (as prescribed) more frequently than I ever needed to before.
I just came across a post from a couple years ago in r/migraine saying how under treated ADHD can increase the frequency of migraine episodes. I am presenting as under treated even on a larger stimulant dose than ever before in my life. IT’S ALL RELATED! OF COURSE!
I don’t know yet what my solution is, maybe seeing if I can get another dosage increase in hopes that maybe enough of the active medication will get in to my system and do something. But I know all the meds are trash now and I might just be cooked.
Sorry for the long rant. Thanks for reading if you made it this far.
tldr: Adderall historically helped my migraines but now, even with a higher prescribed dose, my migraines are worse than ever
