Unsolicited Advice for the Omega Hunt
As the nodes have a low drop rate, I think people are going to be farming for awhile. I have seen great hunts and not so great hunts, so here is unsolicited advice from what I’ve learnt. And from my hunts on Savage, I think they are almost all mandatory unless you want to have a very bad time.
- thundercryst/thunder pods can disable the white laser she starts shooting and stagger her. It seems like it is 1 pod for the first time, 2 for the second & then 3 thereafter, but not 100% sure
- I find the dash attack she introduces from phase 2 to be the one that carts me the most. Not only does it hit hard, it can knock you into an existing mustard bomb fire, or a few other unlucky combinations
- for the MRV missiles, I evade out of the first one, then evade back to where I was for the second, etc. This way I don’t get in other people’s way and use the least amount of space as possible
- if you get the mustard bomb marker, take that shit far away. Bonus if you put it near an existing fire
- if she is Pantokrator mode for awhile, she will start bucking around like crazy. My advice is to get on your chocobo and run as far away from her as you can. She can jump pretty far, and you can get nicely staggered into a flamethrower into a cart. She will buck around, followed by a flamethrower, three times, and then will stop moving for a bit and wounds will open on all her legs, so you can close in on her and pop them
- use the pictomancer item twice before the third area. You can then have Mog of the Ages ready for the Nersyclla DPS check
- paralysis weapon for Nerscylla for the DPS check seems to be the way to go. Paralysing it as soon as possible stops it jumping around and allows everybody to wail on it -> leads to it dying very quickly
- bring deodorant and your choice of antidote medicine. The Marlboros give many status effects, but the combo of stench and poison has seen people get poisoned to death without being able to do anything about it
- after the DPS check, she is positioned nicely by the ice wall. If you are in range, grapple onto it while you are under the Nersyclla shield and activate it after delta attack resolves and the music has changed
For the enmity mechanic.
- if you hit her on the head enough when she is angry, you will gain enmity/aggro. If you don’t want this, don’t hit her on the head. If you do, then congrats, you are now the tank
- with one exception, we really only need one tank. We don’t need people playing aggro ping-pong. If you’re not the tank, focus on hitting anywhere besides her head
- if you are the tank, with great power comes great responsibility. Specifically, the responsibility of positioning her and keeping her still
- if she is sitting on top of or near a mustard bomb, or near a wall, lure her out to somewhere nice & safe for the DPS people to have some room to manoeuvre while they deal damage
- In Pantantokrator mode, the DPS people should be opening up wounds on her legs and popping them.
- if you are the tank, keep focused on the head and front legs and try keep her as still as possible. We don’t want her to be Kylie Minogue in Spinning Around. As the DPS people are supposed to be wailing on the legs, they don’t want Omega whirling around
- the one exception is if the tank gets hit with the HP debuff as it will not go away while they hold enmity. At this point, someone else should take enmity while the tank loses the debuff, and then the tank can take aggro back. Please, for the love of Hydaelyn, do not take aggro back before then.
- the shield from the shield generator (gathered from the Omega fragments) protect you from lasers, flamethrowers, mustard bombs, the debuff orb attack, but not attacks from her legs. Or the dash. Be wary of the dash. Many hunts have ended in the final phase from hunters being in the shield
- great place to put the shield is right on top of your tank when they’ve got Omega still. She still dashes around, so it can be a bit hit & miss, but it is awesome when it works
- remember, this fight is based on a raid from a MMORPG, minus a dedicated healer (or green DPS; people in FF14 have strong opinions on the healer jobs)
