Hi! I had a question about the California Education Specialist credentials. I was accepted into a teaching fellowship/grad program (Alder GSE) for the upcoming school year for their mild/moderate support needs Education Specialist credential.
However, I have been working as a para in a self-contained Extensive support needs classroom and have found that this is the type of classroom I most enjoy working in.
The fellowship I will be doing only offers the mild/moderate credential. Does anyone know how difficult it is it to add extensive support needs to a mild/moderate credential? I have been having trouble finding the information online.
I would love to stay in the fellowship if possible, because it has paid student teaching and offers a strong cohort and mentorship model. I was wondering, though, if it would be easier to add on extensive support needs after I’ve finished or if it would be better to look for a CSU or an online program that allows dual certification for both levels. Thank you!
