Quick question, how big of a deal is your roof when going solar?

I’ve heard things about age, direction, shading, even the type of shingles affecting everything. Makes me wonder if it’s better to fix/replace the roof first before even thinking about panels.

For those who’ve done it, did your roof situation make or break your solar setup?
