Visa rejected B1/B2 - Tourist visa
Hello,
I’m a 26F, single, and I attended my U.S. visa interview in Chennai yesterday. Unfortunately, I was handed a 214(b) refusal slip and my passport was returned immediately after the interview. I’m trying to understand what may have gone wrong and would appreciate any insights.
These were the questions asked:
Q: What is your purpose of visiting the U.S.?
A: I’m planning a short vacation to the U.S. with my parents.
Q: Do you have any family or relatives staying in the U.S.?
A: Yes, my brother lives in the U.S.
Q: What does he do?
A: He is a resident doctor at XXX Hospital.
Q: Which visa is he on?
A: J1 visa.
Q: Could you show me a copy of his visa?
A: Yes, I handed over a copy of my brother’s visa.
Q: Do your parents have visas?
A: Yes, they do.
Q: What do you do?
A: I explained my role and the company I work for.
Q: How much do you earn?
A: I shared my annual income.
Q: Who would be sponsoring the trip?
A: I will be self-sponsoring the trip.
After this, the officer handed me the 214(b) form and said I was not selected for the visa, and that the reason was mentioned in the form.
Could anyone help me understand what might have gone wrong or what could have raised concerns during the interview?
