Really negative massage experience
I've been an LMT for 8 years but I've taken some time out to have kids. I've gotten pretty great feedback from my work, I'm not a deep tissue person but if needed, I can do it. I just got a job at a very high end spa resort and everyone this weekend was so nice. except my last client, it was my last one on Mother's Day at 5pm (90min). immediately she asks, so do you have any energy left for me? i want deep tissue, you'll feel the knots.
so pf course immediately into the massage she asks if i can apply more pressure. I tell her i am warming up the tissue and am already using my forearm. so long story short, I go as deep as I feel comfortable with, I'm using forearms and elbows. it's super rare but I will encounter these people once in awhile, they are so numb and no pressure will satisfy them. She also had a lot of preferences and complaints about every little thing. she was a larger lady and kept making all these comments that I basically didn't know what I was doing, because of course there are all these knots that I'm not getting or feeling. I actually feel very skilled and intuitive with trigger point therapy and I could not feel knots, just a lot of density with her. anyway she was very vocal about me not meeting her needs and I could feel her anger. all I wanted to do was break contact and stop working on her but it was 90min to go.
ive massaged hundreds, maybe thousand people and it is very rare that I disliked someone so much, and felt their disdain, but had to endure working on them, knowing they're not happy. it felt horrible. i spent the rest of my Mother's Day really upset by the interaction and hating my work and the fact that I couldnr just stop touching and working on someone I didn't want to work on.
i just wanted to share and get any feedback or suggestions. please be kind, I am still feeling sensitive about this interaction . something about her energy really affected me. and yes I did my clearing practices and meditated but yeah, still processing what could have been done differently. maybe some people can never be pleased. it's not like i cam refer her to someone else or anything, it is literally a $400 massage at a high end resort hotel so most people are coming from out of town or it's a once in awhile treat
