Large homeless shelter will be relocated to 460 West Main Street. Directly across from Steve & Sue’s and Hyannis West Elementary school.

Every day at 7am everyone staying at the homeless shelter will be forced out and not allowed back until later in the day. This is routine stuff for homeless shelters, but it directly occurs when a lot of kids are walking to their schools.
The sidewalk in front of the proposed homeless shelter location is where kids from 3 different schools use (Hyannis West, Barnstable High, and Sturgis). Not to mention all the other kids that use the sidewalk to go to get some ice cream from Steve & Sue’s.

The shelter actually has to be a certain distance from schools because people using the shelter often are on a list. Which makes you wonder why they would put it so close to a bunch of schools. Not to mention all the houses near that area that might not be okay with the same things the schools are not okay with.

Summer is almost here and a lot of homeless will be coming to the Cape for a nice stay. I know we already have a good portion size of homeless already here without people taking buses here, but the people in charge just don't seem like they want to try very hard.

What are your thoughts on placing the homeless shelter at 460 West Main Street?
