Looking to get into law enforcement, local or state and then possibly see about going federal down the road. Over 8 years ago, as a homesick college freshman who was out of shape and sleep-deprived, I went to the school counseling office for feeling depressed with occasional mood swings. After one single visit with the psychiatrist, they diagnosed me with bipolar 2 and prescribed a mood stabilizer medication.

I disagreed with how hastily they went about it. Didn’t take the medication, cleaned up my sleep schedule, diet, exercise routine, and boom I suddenly felt much better. Fast forward 8 years: I’ve never been to counseling or sought any treatment since and I have an incredibly stable work history with strong references.

I’m realizing, however, that the diagnosis from 2018 could be bad for an application even though everything contradicts it. I’m already looking at seeing someone to be reassessed and get the opinion it was misdiagnosed to amend the record.

Would this still drastically affect my application?
