Installing 5/8 pre stained maple as base.

Coping would be ideal in the inside corners, but as the material is basically square with a ~1/8 round over. The overlap on the top does not look too appealing and scared that the inside mitres might open up over time as I’m located in a climate that will go to -30 to +30 Celsius. Butt joints are simple, but the round over doesn’t transition that well with the stained base. If it was going to be painted I would’ve just done a butt joint.

What would you guys recommend?
