Hi everyone, I’m a medical student trying to get a sense of different specialties and lifestyle details that don’t usually get discussed much.
I’m curious: are there medical specialties, especially outside of hospital settings, with minimal or no direct patient contact where having longer nails wouldn’t be an issue?
I know in many clinical environments (especially with direct patient care), short nails are required for hygiene and safety reasons. But I’m wondering about paths like occupational health, radiology, research, psychiatry etc., or even non-clinical roles.
Would love to hear from people in different fields:
What specialty are you in?

How much patient contact do you have?

Are there strict rules about nails/appearance? Do you sometimes see colleagues with longer nails?

Thanks in advance!

\[specialties with minimal patient contact + flexible appearance rules?\]

Edit: The post is basically about understanding which specialties have minimal direct patient contact. The small details sometimes reveal the bigger picture about day-to-day work, like being able to have longer/colored nails, relaxed appearance etc..
