Jurassic Park - Data East - Help Needed!
Hello alll! Been a childhood dream of mine to own this machine and I finally made it happen! I just picked this pin up from a guy that was selling it. He said 100% working order HUO. As we all know, not everything in a 30 year old machine is working 100%. I got it home and have found a few items and wanted to check and see if anyone here has a solution:
Machine specs - When it boots, it shows "Display Version A5.01 - 6/24/1993 & USA CPU 4.04"
Machine also has a Rottendog Amusements power board installed.
1 ) The first thing that I can't wrap my head around is getting this thing into freeplay. I can get it into the diagnostics / audits menu but can only press "start" to enter some items. For example, when you press start on a setting like Replay at XXX score, it lets me amend the number. When I press start on the freeplay setting, it doesn't register that I'm pressing start. Can't amend any of the other settings either. Can only amend settings to do with scores. Is there some sort of "operator lock" or something that I'm missing that needs to be disabled?
2 ) With the specs up there, what would you guys recommend upgrading to? I've seen the CPU upgrade and it looks as simple as buying chips and swapping them.
3 ) When the game starts and you have to shoot the dinosaur, the lamps flash on the backbox. That's part of the game but the audible "clicking" is confusing me. It sounds like old school light bulbs clicking. The entire machine has been converted to LED - playfield and backbox. What causes this? I opened the backbox and you can hear it but I can't pinpoint it.
4 ) Raptor screech - I've played this game a lot over the years and a semi-local arcade has one but it's old and in OK condition. When you shoot the raptor pen, it makes the classic raptor screech from the movies before returning the ball to you. Mine doesn't do that. Do you know why mine wouldn't? Maybe an upgrade to a newer audio version? I don't think he has pinsound in his as he said he bought it in 2017 in it's current condition and never got around to messing with it.
5 ) My machine has the DE hum when sitting. Any suggestions on cleaning this up? My other older Gottlieb machine has this also.
6 ) When I get it into the diagnostics menu, the only thing it shows is "Playfield Status - Right Flipper #64" and keeps making the pounding sound. It will not let me move forward regardless of any button pressed. Have to turn off the machine and restart it.
7 ) Is it normal for the "Adv-X" led to stay on all of the time? When playing it stays lit, when in attract mode, it stays lit, when in settings, it stays lit.
I think I need to replace the VUK or plunger on the VUK on the hole that is used after the T-Rex eats the ball. It can't throw the ball up and takes multiple times to get it up and out of the hole. Would you recommend changing the whole thing or just the plunger (if possible)?
Thank you guys in advance for the help. I really appreciate it!
